In 2017 I was so fortunate to be able to travel a lot and visit some of my best friends across the country. At one point it even inspired me to start this blog so I’d have a place to remember every detail! I thought I’d look back on some of my favorite trips (in no particular order) before the New Year!
#1: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
In January, S and I took about a week long vacation to Cabo San Lucas and it was perfect! I honestly think it’s our favorite trip together so far for both of us. The area was gorgeous, the weather was flawless, the people were great, the food was amazing and we had so much fun riding camels, kayaking, snorkeling and beach bumming.
#2: Washington, D.C.
In April, I visited by best friend who moved to D.C. to work at our nation’s capitol! It was so wonderful to see her again and be able to catch up and hang out every second of the day like we used to when we were in high school and college. The city itself was an absolute blast to explore. There’s so much to see and she was a great tour guide. The post about my trip there was my first post on this blog!
#3: The MC Homestead
Even though this is in Colorado, it can be a trek to get there and it’s hands down one of my favorite places to visit… so I think it’s fair to put it in this list. It’s the home of my dear friends Matt and Chris. They live up in the Rocky Mountains and besides the joy of being able to see their faces, their homestead is so welcoming and warm and you know you’ll be missing this place the second you’re leaving their driveway. Some of my favorite moments of 2017 happened while visiting the homestead.
#4: San Francisco, California
S and my birthdays are just two days apart in August, so this year to celebrate we went to San Francisco to visit our friend who lives there. Good thing we went when we did because we had no idea until we saw her that a month later she’d be buying a one way ticket to Asia. She’s been wandering around ever since and just got to Thailand a few days ago. It was so fun to explore San Fran with her and also get some great quality time before she left for her journeys! I was also able to catch up with a friend of mine who is so special to me who I worked with years ago. Ironically both girls have the same name!
#5: Tiny Home Adventure
Another Colorado excursion, but such a memorable one! It was S and I’s first experience with a tiny home and it was inside the magical Mermaid Cottage in Del Norte, Colorado. This trip was for our 3-Year Anniversary. The cordwood cottage was made with glass bottles that created a mosaic in the walls and was so beautiful when the sun was shining through. We met up with Matt and Chris the next day for some adventuring in the Sand Dunes and nearby Gator Farm while they were celebrating their anniversary too!
#6: Los Angeles, California
This was an extremely short trip but a very meaningful one. A best friend of mine was getting married! I didn’t take many pictures of the weekend as it flew by but S and I stayed with my younger sister who showed us around during the little free time we had. I have quite a few siblings so things can get pretty hectic and noisy when we are all together so it was nice to have some one on one time with her. My friend’s wedding was so sweet and I’m so happy I was there for it. We both LOVE food and her reception was a Chinese banquet that totally delivered!
#7: Cancun, Mexico
After having such a blast in Mexico at the beginning of the year, S and I booked another winter getaway in December. I’m planning on writing a post about this trip soon but the holidays have kept me pretty busy. It was a brief but fun trip. I love visiting Mexico! Other than great food and beach time once our Day 1 rainstorm moved on, I was able to take a tour of Chichén Itzá! It’s a city of Mayan ruins, one of the Wonders of the Modern World and a huuuge bucket list item for me. I hope we start making trips to different parts of the country a tradition each year (even if we can’t go twice in one year like we somehow managed to pull off in 2017 haha)!
